Kolkata Mayor's Controversial Views on Religious Concepts

Kolkata Mayor and a minister of the Trinamool Congress , the ruling dispensation of West Bengal , Firhad Hakim's recent comments at a public event  has created widespread controversy and his remarks that those born in non muslim households were not so fortunate as their Muslim brethren has evoked strong reaction from different quarters. Firhad's observation that Muslims are assured of a place in jannat or heaven if they do not indulge in any big wrong doing and it was imperative for every Muslim to give a dawat or an invite to members of other religions to be a part of the Muslim community has only complicated a sensitive issue. It is rather strange for a minister to speak in such a way that could hurt the sentiments of other religions. As a minister it is the responsibility of Firhad Hakim to ensure the well being of members belonging to every community, religion, caste and creed. These views of Firhad Hakim  not only show him as a person favouring a particular religion with

Rahul Gandhi's illogical comments

Rahul Gandhi's recent observation in Parliament that Hindus are inclined towards violence and resort to falsehood and indulge in hatred is rather baffling considering the fact that as leader of the opposition of the Parliament in India, the Congress leader  should have shown greater political judgement. The leader of the opposition used his wisdom in speaking in such a way that it did not do justice to the position of great responsibilty he has been endowed with. His absurd contention is totally uncalled for and on the contrary numerous political experts who have analysed Rahul Gandhi's angry burst of speech speaking lowly of the Hindus observe that it is inexplicable to expect from the Leader of Opposition in Parliament to club all the members belonging to the Hindu community as force's that are synonymous with violence. If we accept Rahul Gandhi's logic then renowned members of the judiciary, medical fraternity, scientists, academics belonging to the Hindu community

The catch that won the match

There is a saying in cricketing jargon that catches win matches and in the T20 international World Cup Finals at Barbados, Surya Kumar Yadav literally snatched the game away from South Africa by taking a spectacular catch of David Miller in the final over. Miller whose presence on the crease posed a great threat to the Indian bowlers had the ability to take South Africa through but for the stupendous effort of Surya Kumar Yadav the Proteas could not fulfill their objective. The match was evenly poised with South Africa needing 16 runs in the final over of the run chase. In the first ball of the final over David Miller smashed the ball with all his might desperate to bring down the run rate in the remaining five balls of the over. It almost looked like a certain six with the ball travelling at a great velocity and was making its way out of the ground. But Surya Kumar Yadav who was positioned near the boundary rope caught the ball, kept it airborne and while crossing the rope threw the

Undesirable Actions that Need to be Combatted

The recent facts revealed by the civic authorities in Kolkata and the added areas of the city that a large number of water bodies are filled up illegally by unscrupulous land sharks is quite astonishing considering the fact that such acts have immensely impacted the environment of the city. Not only small time players in the real estate business but also those who are well known for their enormous housing projects are also guilty of this crime reports indicate. The modus operandi of those involved in construction activities is simple. They encourage the local residents where small water bodies like ponds are situated to throw garbage in such a way that in due course all traces of water vanish and no one can make out if there was a water body at all in that very place. At times local goons are employed to achieve the objectives. Civic body authorities have also pointed out to the fact that nearly 8,000 water bodies in and around the city have been destroyed in a bid to promote construc

The valiant way in which a sub inspector of West Bengal police thwarted the attempts of seven robbers from robbing a famous jewellery shop  in Raniganj in West Bengal deserves exceptional praise and his dramatic efforts calls for universal commendation. The slap that stirred the nation

The recent incident at Chandigarh Airport in which a CISF woman security personnel slapped BJP's newly elected M.P Kangana Rawat in full view of the public has evoked mixed responses. While some lauded the lady security personnel for her boldness to physically confront the BJP MP and delivering a good slap others severely criticised the action of the security personnel for physically assaulting a passenger whom she was duty bound to protect. The action of the CISF personnel stems from the fact that Kangana Rawat has made some adverse comments regarding the farmers protest against the Central Government's anti farmer's policies. Those defending the lady CISF security personnel said that she had given vent to her pent up feelings on seeing the BJP member of parliament since her observation about the farmer's protests was not in good taste and showed the farmers agitation in poor light. While those opposing the drastic action of the CISF personnel emphasised that she coul
