Kolkata Mayor's Controversial Views on Religious Concepts

Kolkata Mayor and a minister of the Trinamool Congress , the ruling dispensation of West Bengal , Firhad Hakim's recent comments at a public event  has created widespread controversy and his remarks that those born in non muslim households were not so fortunate as their Muslim brethren has evoked strong reaction from different quarters. Firhad's observation that Muslims are assured of a place in jannat or heaven if they do not indulge in any big wrong doing and it was imperative for every Muslim to give a dawat or an invite to members of other religions to be a part of the Muslim community has only complicated a sensitive issue. It is rather strange for a minister to speak in such a way that could hurt the sentiments of other religions. As a minister it is the responsibility of Firhad Hakim to ensure the well being of members belonging to every community, religion, caste and creed. These views of Firhad Hakim  not only show him as a person favouring a particular religion with great zeal but also trying to propagate its ideals.  Earlier comments by Firhad Hakim referring to a particular area of Kolkata as mini Pakistan was also widely censured. While Firhad makes such comments with great fervour for the minority community on the other hand he also actively takes part in festivities linked to Durga Puja, the greatest festival of the Bengalis belonging to the majority community. Firhad Hakim's comments of such nature will only compel one to wonder about his real intentions and motives unless and until he clarifies his real intentions. Till then one can only attribute his remarks for a cause best known to him.
