SCOUT was awarded two STTRs in collaboration with the Stanford University Space Rendezvous Laboratory (SLAB) and the Florida Institute of Technology ORION Lab. SpaceWERX has awarded 125 contracts to develop technologies for orbital debris cleanup and other space services, of which SCOUT was awarded two STTRs (Phase I) for Real-time Autonomous Uncertainty and Risk Monitoring, and Robust Optical Tracking integration into Real-time Orbital Determination (RTOD). WASHINGTON, Aug. 23: A new national survey from U.S. News & World Report's 360 Reviews finds four in five Americans (81%) have adjusted their spending due to inflation, and 84% indicate they worry about the impact of inflation on this year's holiday shopping season. To better understand the impact of inflation on consumer money-saving and purchasing habits, U.S. News used a third-party survey platform to poll 2,000 U.S. adults. It asked U.S. respondents about their coupon habits, 2022 holiday shopping plans, and more. Survey responses were weighted in order to be representative of the U.S. population. "Our latest survey makes it clear Americans are flocking to digital coupons and similar digital money-saving tools because of inflation's impact to their wallets," said Alexandra Kelly, senior editor, 360 Deals. Kelly adds, "And they seem to be helping. In fact, an overwhelming 91% of U.S. consumers who use coupon sites, apps, and/or browser extensions report having saved money because of these digital resources — and half of Americans (51%) say they definitely plan to use digital coupons and similar online money-saving tools to help with their holiday shopping this year." Additional survey highlights include: More than half of Americans (58%) look for coupons at least once a week. Three in four Americans (76%) have searched for digital coupons while grocery shopping. Animal Wellness Action Applauds Rep. David McKinley for Backing Big Cat Public Safety Act to Protect West Virginians

MORGANTOWN, WEST VIRGINIA, UNITED STATES , August 5: With the support of the national law enforcement, animal welfare, and conservation and mainstream zoological communities, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the Big Cat Public Safety Act, H.R. 263, on Friday by a vote of 278 to 134. H.R. 263 was introduced by Reps. Mike Quigley, D-Ill., and Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa. and was actively supported on the floor by Rep. David McKinley, R-W.W., who voted in support of the measure. “Chaos and cruelty result when people breed big cats for use as pets or for commercial petting operations,” said Wayne Pacelle, president of the Center for a Humane Economy. “It’s alarming that this problem has persisted for so long, and this is an important first step in establishing a national policy to stop the trade and breeding of endangered lions and tigers as pets in homes and props at roadside zoos.” “Breeders who pump out countless big cats for cub-petting are worse than puppy millers, placing unfunded mandates on animal rescues who have to clean up their mess and care for these majestic creatures once they’ve grown too big to exploit,” said Marty Irby, executive director at Animal Wellness Action. “We applaud Rep. McKinley for backing the Big Cat Public Safety Act that will help keep families in West Virginia safe from abused and dangerous big cats." The bill builds on the Captive Wildlife Safety Act, passed unanimously in 2003, that sought to ban the trade in big cats as pets. That original measure had a drafting flaw, and the Big Cat Public Safety Act seeks to correct that problem and to ban breeding big cats for the pet trade or for commercial cub petting. The bill had been introduced long before the salacious reality television series “Tiger King,” but that series put the issue of private ownership of tigers and lions on the American radar screen. NBC’s streaming platform, Peacock TV, also featured the bill in its series “Joe vs. Carole,” released in March. Law enforcement swung in force behind the bill. “I’ve experienced the worst-case scenario first-hand, and it is a gut-wrenching experience to think about tigers, lions, and other big cats on the prowl in such close proximity to our homes and our schools,” said Sheriff Matt Lutz from Zanesville, Ohio, whose office was forced to respond to a mass release of tigers, lions, and other animals in his community more than a decade ago. “Congress should step up and support those of us in law enforcement, who risk our lives every day, and pass the Big Cat Public Safety Act.” “It is an enormous expense to care for these animals, and this reckless behavior foists a massive long-term financial liability on animal sanctuaries,” said Carole Baskin, founder of Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, Florida. “None of these private big cat owners holds onto the animals for very long, and that means they get turned over to groups like Big Cat Rescue that have to take in these traumatized, often very unhealthy animals.” Down from nearly 60 cub-petting operations just 10 or 15 years ago, there are now maybe two or three commercial cub petting outfits in the United States. Nearly all cub-petters featured in “Tiger King” are incarcerated, have had their animals seized, or are facing prosecution. -Joe Exotic is serving 21 years in federal prison for 17 wildlife-related charges as well as murder for hire charges -Jeff Lowe, who took charge of Joe Exotic’s GW Zoo and intended to open a cub-petting operation in far eastern Oklahoma, had his operation raided by federal authorities, who brought civil charges against him. Lowe’s animals have been confiscated and placed at sanctuaries. -Tim Stark, another prominent Tiger King “star,” had his animals confiscated by the State of Indiana for multiple animal-related and nonprofit-operation violations. He fled the state after a criminal charge was filed and was arrested in New York. -Bhagavan “Doc” Antle was arrested on charges of money laundering. He’s also facing charges by the State of Virginia with 15 counts of wildlife trafficking and animal cruelty. The tigers and lions bred for the pet trade or roadside attractions never lead good lives. They typically live in substandard conditions, and in almost every case, their lives end tragically. Photographer Creates Unique Photos of Circus Performers

QUEENSBURY, NY, USA, August 5: New York tintype artist photographer Craig Murphy recently completed a series of collodion photographs of the traveling Zerbini Family Circus performers. The wet plate photographer set up his Glens Falls Art traveling tintype studio alongside the circus tent in upstate NY. These modern-day collodion images of circus performers are not unlike the Victorian portraits of strong men, sword swallowers and tightrope walkers made In the 19th century. “These images offer an opportunity for the viewer to step back in time and imagine what photographs of the circus would have looked like in the 1860’s”, says Craig Murphy. Invented by English photographer Frederick Scott Archer in 1851, wet plate collodion photography is the process of pouring collodion onto a plate of thin metal or glass, sensitizing in a silver nitrate solution, exposing in the camera, then developing the plate while it’s still wet. Most photographs made between 1850 until the early 1880's were made with the "wet plate" process. There is currently a resurgence of this photographic method. The Quito Metro, a new way to tour the city in a sustainable way

QUITO, ECUADOR, August 5: With a route of 22 kilometers at a speed of 38 km/h, the new transport network will connect Quitumbe with El Labrador, through 15 stations, in record time. The capacity will be 1,230 passengers, distributed among the six cars for each train, with a length of 109 meters. In this way, Quito joins the set of capitals that are committed to sustainable mobility and reaffirms itself as a city committed to the environment and the quality of life of its inhabitants and tourists. From the tourist point of view, the Quito Metro offers a much faster, cheaper, and more efficient mobility to be able to move between the different attractions of the city. In fact, the stations will be strategically located between traditional areas of the city and tourist areas such as La Carolina parks, in the modern area of the city; El Ejido, located around the centenary La Mariscal neighborhood; and La Alameda that marks the beginning of the patrimonial Historical Center; the emblematic San Francisco church; and Quitumbe, the gate to the city.
