The Super Cop of Bengal who single handedly fought against seven armed robbers

The valiant way in which a sub inspector of West Bengal police thwarted the attempts of seven robbers from robbing a famous jewellery shop  in Raniganj in West Bengal deserves exceptional praise and his dramatic efforts calls for universal commendation. Seven masked robbers armed with dangerous weapons barged into the jewellery shop and within the least possible time took into their possession jewellery worth Rs 4 crores and could have succeeded in their mission but for a cop who was in the neighborhood for a personal work sensed trouble while passing by the jewellery shop and seeing the scared and terrified faces of the customers and employees who were in the jewellery store.Sub inspector Meghnad Mondal took position behind a six inch pole next to the location where the perilous activities were taking place. Mondal who was stationed at a nearby police outpost and was in plain clothes and carrying the service revolver with him. While trying to escape with the booty one of the miscreants noticed Mondal in a position that evoked his suspicion. He alerted his accomplices about Mondal's presence and his aggressive stance. Mondal in a swift response decided to take on the seven member gang and started firing. One of the robbers got injured but the rest of the gang members kept firing at Mondal from their weapons. The valiant sub inspector did not relent and responded to the attackers with lethal ferocity. Unable to cope up with Mondal's tenacity the gang fled leaving behind almost half of the booty and a large number of ammunition. The gang escaped but Mondal kept on chasing the gangsters. The miscreants shot the driver of a car leaving him injured before escaping. The neighbouring outposts were alerted and initial reports indicated that two members of the dreaded gang were later arrested. Mondal's action has earned him laurels from various quarters and has catapulted him to the limelight. Such rare acts of bravery by cops are not very common especially when chances of a lone person fighting against seven gangsters poses great threat to his life. Kudos to the brave sub inspector for his action that could very well resemble a Hollywood or Bollywood action thriller.
