COLGATE-PALMOLIVE AND CELEBRITY SWIMMER MICHAEL PHELPS JOIN FORCES TO ENCOURAGE A NEW GENERATION TO CLOSE THE FAUCET

NEW YORK, NY April 18: In reverence of Earth Day on April 22, Colgate® revealed that one of the most celebrated sports person of all-time, swimmer Michael Phelps, is linking with the enterprise’s water saving consciousness attempt as worldwide representative. As Colgate persists its continuing collaboration with The Nature Conservancy, a top conservation organization to reinstate waterways in the U.S. and instruct people about the significance of water, Michael Phelps will aid increase consciousness for the ‘Save Water’ program and encourage the subsequent generation to act.

Colgate is discovered in over two-thirds of families throughout the globe, over any other product, as stated by Kantar research, and approximately all Colgate products necessitate consumer water usage. By leaving the tap on, the average American can misuse up to four gallons of clean drinking water while cleaning his or her teeth for two minutes. Alongside Michael Phelps and The Nature Conservancy, Colgate’s 2017 objective is to influence 100 million people and stimulate 10 million children to deactivate the tap while brushing, since each drop counts. If encompassed largely, this easy practice can be a great act of water and energy conservation.
“Water is the earth’s most precious resource, but without realizing it we often take it for granted,” Phelps revealed, adding, “I’m committed to joining Colgate’s efforts to save water and encouraging the next generation to turn off the faucet. Our son Boomer turns one next month, so he isn’t brushing on his own quite yet, but we’ll teach him to as soon as he does!”

As celebrity known for his association with water, Phelps is delighted to unite with Colgate as the worldwide representative in this water conservation consciousness project, aptly kicking off during Earth Month. This summer, Phelps will present three short-form films that deals with water topics in the U.S., and unite his and his family’s groups on social media to disseminate this significant communication that each drop counts. Colgate will also communicate this lesson with children, teachers and families via its prize-gaining Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures® oral health education program.

“Colgate is committed to making every drop of water count,” revealed Lori Michelin, vice president of sustainability & EHS at Colgate-Palmolive, adding, “We work consistently to reduce our water-use footprint and have avoided enough water consumption in manufacturing to fill nearly 20,000 competition-sized swimming pools since 2002. That said, 90 percent of Colgate’s current water-use footprint comes from consumer use of our products, so we’re asking everyone to help.”
