University of Maryland, Baltimore County Triumphs in 2017 Nationwide Collegiate Cyber Defense Championship in the U.S.



SAN ANTONIO, April 16: University of Maryland, Baltimore County vanquished nine other finalist teams to attain the 2017 National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition to become National Champions. The contest was organized in San Antonio, Texas, April 13-15, with the topmost 10 college and university teams from throughout the country competing with each other to defend a system against continuous cyber attacks.

Over 230 colleges and universities partook in provincial contests that led to this year's nationwide competition.

Formed after actual-world situations, NCCDC was the first national cybersecurity contest to analyze how well college pupil’s function and deal with a network infrastructure like the networks obtained in the business segment. In this year's National Championship, the contending teams functioned to acquire a multi-site retail corporation with 160 workers, point of sale systems, inventory systems, and other systems one locates in an archetypal retail enterprise.

Raytheon will bring the successful team to Washington, D.C., this summer to visit some of the country's best research and nationwide cybersecurity sites.

Along with University of Maryland, Baltimore County acquiring the top spot, University of Tulsa was positioned second, and Brigham Young University was positioned third. The 10 schools that contested at the championship comprised: University of Alaska Fairbanks, At Large Regional CCDC Winner,    University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Mid-Atlantic Regional Winner,    DePaul University, Mid-West Regional Winner, Montana Tech, North Central Regional Winner, Rochester Institute of Technology, Northeast Regional Winner, University of Washington Seattle, Pacific Rim Regional Winner, Brigham Young University, Rocky Mountain Regional Winner, University of South Alabama, Southeast Regional Winner, University of Tulsa, Southwest Regional Winner, California State University Northridge, Western Regional CCDC Winner, Sponsors of NCCDC include government agencies, colleges and commercial companies.
