 The violence in Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh is unfortunate considering the fact that it came against the backdrop of a court ruling that granted the Archaeological Survey of India to undertake a study to determine whether a temple existed on the premises of a mosque that was built by a foreign intruder several centuries ago.
