PepsiCo adopts science-oriented objectives in the combat against climate change
PURCHASE, N.Y., May 12: PepsiCo has substantiated that its aspiring
new objective for greenhouse gas (GHG) emission lessening has been authenticated
and sanctioned by the Science Based Targets Initiative as being consistent with
what climate science states is essential to keep global warming beneath two
degrees Celsius. The worldwide food and beverage enterprise has pledged to function
to lessen complete GHG discharges throughout its value chain by no less than 20

of its legacy actions. It also expanded its utilization of renewable energy and

hydrofluorocarbons.
Commenced in 2016 as component its wider 2025 Agenda, the
new climate objective takes into consideration PepsiCo's direct functions,
owned-fleet fuel usage and procured electricity, which comprise almost 7% of
the enterprise's overall carbon footprint. Significantly, however, the objective

sources outside PepsiCo direct processes, for example agri-business, wrapping,
third-party transport and customer usage of its products.
Up to the present time, 44 businesses globally have had
their climate objectives authenticated by the Science Based Targets Initiative,
a collaboration between CDP, the World Resources Institute, the World Wide Fund
for Nature and the UN Global Compact, with above 200 additional enterprises expecting
authentication.

April 2016 set out the obligation for collective action to limit the impact of
climate change," revealed Dr. Mehmood Khan, PepsiCo Vice Chairman and
Chief Scientific Officer, Global Research and Development, adding, "We
believe combating climate change is critical to the future of our company, our
customers, consumers and our world. Our
new target represents a meaningful and measurable contribution to meeting the
two degree global goal. Such rigor is now a requirement of any responsible
business."
Cynthia Cummis, Director of Private Sector Climate
Mitigation at the World Resources Institute and a member of the Science Based
Targets Initiative Steering Committee, stated, “The threat of climate change
calls for governments and businesses to commit to science-based action. We
congratulate PepsiCo on their science-based target. By seeking to decarbonize
its value chain, the company is showing leadership within the food and
agriculture sector and strengthening its competitive advantage in the
transition to the low-carbon economy."
PepsiCo will function to lessen its GHG discharges by: Boosting
energy competence and transitioning to renewables in its business processes
where possible; Functioning with providers to lessen their GHG effects;
Surveying less GHG-intensive packaging substances; and Aiding direct agriculturalists
in an attempt to lessen GHG discharges in the field via worldwide plans for
example the PepsiCo Sustainable Farming Initiative.
Among fresh activities already proceeding, PepsiCo has combined
with the Business Renewables Center at the Rocky Mountain Institute and signed
