ZTE and MTN Unveil the first 5G SA network in East Africa


SHENZHEN, China, Jan. 21 : ZTE Corporation, a key global contributor of telecommunications, enterprise and client expertise solutions for the Mobile Internet, revealed that ZTE and MTN Uganda have unitedly unveiled the first 5G SA network in East Africa, showing 5G use cases at a programme titled "Experience the Future Together", taking place in the Nyonyi Garden, Kampala, Uganda.
ZTE and MTN Uganda have exhibited a high-speed 5G SA network under the 60 MHz spectrum bandwidth with a real rate of over 1.494 Gbps, which can back a range of applications, for example Gigabit devoid  of Fiber Connectivity, Cloud XR, ultra-HD live broadcast, automatic driving and remote surgery.
It is the first 5G SA network in East Africa. Its utilisation and function adopt ZTE's end-to-end 5G equipment, consisting  of Common Core, to obtain the total separation of the signaling plane and the data plane without depending on the prevailing LTE core network EPC. Apart from this, the network can further back typical 5G applications, consisting of uRLLC and mMTC, through smooth upgrade.
Underpinned by the SA 5G network, the demonstration also incorporated the real-time communication of an on-site fixed-wireless access network, bionic robot, Cloud VR and other vertical industries, totally exhibiting the 5G network's capacity as the foundation of an intelligent society as well as ZTE and MTN's dedication to exploring 5G development in Africa.
Apart from this, ZTE also provided its end-to-end commercialized 5G solutions, consisting of the 5G Common Core, Beyond 100G Transmission, 5G Flexhaul, 5G New Radio and Big Video, as well as its 5G terminal devices, for example Axon 10 Pro 5G smartphones, 5G indoor and outdoor routers.
