Applied DNA Enters into Cooperative Exploration and Expansion Deal with U.S. Army to Review Commercialization of Swift In-Field DNA Recognition Expertise

STONY BROOK, N.Y September 12: Applied DNA Sciences,( Inc.), is pleased to reveal the signing of a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (“CRADA”) with the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command’s Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (“ECBC”) to review the commercialization of ECBC’s state-of-the-art swift, in-field DNA microarray expertise for utilization in military as well as business supply chains. ECBC is the country’s chief Department of Defense (“DoD”) specialized exploration organization for non-medical chemical along with biological warfare protection.

Under the stipulations of the CRADA, a joint endeavor under the newly-revealed Defense Logistics Agency Rapid Innovation Fund award obtained by Applied DNA in June 2017, ECBC’s substance matter specialists and Applied DNA’s science group will jointly review the viability of commercializing ECBC’s in-field DNA recognition expertise in diverse supply chains. ECBC’s hand-held in-field DNA microarray knowledge permits detection of a DNA taggant within some minutes. The mission objective is to validate the system with Applied DNA’s taggants presented into normal inks or varnishes or onto other planes, devoid of the requirement for DNA augmentation or other sample preparation, thus significantly streamlining in-field DNA recognition.

“Rapid, hand-held in-field DNA detection has long been a goal of ours and is essential to the long-term growth of our technology platform,” avowed Dr. James Hayward, president and CEO of Applied DNA, adding, “We are honored to work with the U.S. Army through ECBC to study the commercialization of the ECBC’s innovative in-field DNA detection technology as a complement to our DNA authentication products for supply chain integrity capable of rapid detection anywhere, anytime, for global supply chains.”

Dr. Hayward further revealed, “This mutually beneficial cooperative research and development project parallels our ongoing partnership with several DoD agencies and reflects our continued efforts to commercialize technologies made available under our ongoing DoD R&D contracts. We believe that the ECBC’s technology is extremely promising in this regard and are excited to work alongside it on this next generation data capture.”

ECBC owns an unequaled chemical biological exploration and expansion infrastructure with scientists, engineers, technicians and experts positioned at four dissimilar locations in the United States: Edgewood Area of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., Pine Bluff, Ark., Rock Island, Ill., as well as Dugway Proving Ground, Utah.

ECBC has an exclusive function in expertise development that cannot be replicated by private industry or review universities. It nurtures exploration, development, analysis, and use of expertise for safeguarding warfighters, primary responders and the country from chemical and biological combat agents. ECBC is presently evolving superior methods to distantly perceive these chemical and biological materials – prior to the warfighter or primary responder ever goes in the danger region. ECBC is furthermore evolving a novel generation of expertise to thwart everything from homemade explosives to biological aerosols to conventional as well as non-conventional chemical threats.
