 The violence in Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh is unfortunate considering the fact that it came against the backdrop of a court ruling that granted the Archaeological Survey of India to undertake a study to determine whether a temple existed on the premises of a mosque that was built by a foreign intruder several centuries ago. While the survey was taking place a group of miscreants attacked the team of surveyors that prompted the police to safeguard the officials from the agitated mob which was peeved with the administration's decision to give the go ahead for the survey to continue.
