Undesirable Actions that Need to be Combatted

The recent facts revealed by the civic authorities in Kolkata and the added areas of the city that a large number of water bodies are filled up illegally by unscrupulous land sharks is quite astonishing considering the fact that such acts have immensely impacted the environment of the city. Not only small time players in the real estate business but also those who are well known for their enormous housing projects are also guilty of this crime reports indicate. The modus operandi of those involved in construction activities is simple. They encourage the local residents where small water bodies like ponds are situated to throw garbage in such a way that in due course all traces of water vanish and no one can make out if there was a water body at all in that very place. At times local goons are employed to achieve the objectives. Civic body authorities have also pointed out to the fact that nearly 8,000 water bodies in and around the city have been destroyed in a bid to promote construc

The Super Cop of Bengal who single handedly fought against seven armed robbers

The valiant way in which a sub inspector of West Bengal police thwarted the attempts of seven robbers from robbing a famous jewellery shop  in Raniganj in West Bengal deserves exceptional praise and his dramatic efforts calls for universal commendation. Seven masked robbers armed with dangerous weapons barged into the jewellery shop and within the least possible time took into their possession jewellery worth Rs 4 crores and could have succeeded in their mission but for a cop who was in the neighborhood for a personal work sensed trouble while passing by the jewellery shop and seeing the scared and terrified faces of the customers and employees who were in the jewellery store.Sub inspector Meghnad Mondal took position behind a six inch pole next to the location where the perilous activities were taking place. Mondal who was stationed at a nearby police outpost and was in plain clothes and carrying the service revolver with him. While trying to escape with the booty one of the miscrean

The slap that stirred the nation

The recent incident at Chandigarh Airport in which a CISF woman security personnel slapped BJP's newly elected M.P Kangana Rawat in full view of the public has evoked mixed responses. While some lauded the lady security personnel for her boldness to physically confront the BJP MP and delivering a good slap others severely criticised the action of the security personnel for physically assaulting a passenger whom she was duty bound to protect. The action of the CISF personnel stems from the fact that Kangana Rawat has made some adverse comments regarding the farmers protest against the Central Government's anti farmer's policies. Those defending the lady CISF security personnel said that she had given vent to her pent up feelings on seeing the BJP member of parliament since her observation about the farmer's protests was not in good taste and showed the farmers agitation in poor light. While those opposing the drastic action of the CISF personnel emphasised that she coul

The heat is on

The extreme weather conditions in Kolkata which is witnessing unprecedented hot and humid weather is a cause of great concern for the people at large. The temperature in the city shot up to 42 degrees centigrade in April and following cyclone Remal the temperature declined to a certain extent but again the weather  has worsened with the temperature climbing to thirty nine degree with a feel factor hovering around 50 degree centigrade making life difficult for the denizens of the city. Environmentalists are of the opinion that large scale felling of trees coupled with a great deal of construction activities in the form of gigantic high-rises in areas where there is very little greenery left because of these co

Pakistan's brazen attempt to undermine India's victory in T20 World Cup

Former Pakistan captain Saleem Malik's allegations that a particular player deliberately wasted balls to clear the way for India's victory in the just concluded T20 international World Cup game in the USA is totally ridiculous and unacceptable. His comments that the player concerned may have been involved in match fixing should also be condemned in unequivocal terms. Saleem Malik's comments emanated following India's thrilling victory over Pakistan by 6 runs in which India's ace pace bowler Jaspreet Bumrah played a stellar role in clinching the victory for India by claiming three wickets for 14 runs. Risabh Pant with a steady knock of 42 runs and Hardik Pandya who claimed two wickets chipped in with useful contributions. This disappointing revelation by Saleem Malik only goes on to show how difficult it is for Pakistan to accept defeat as part of the game. This attitude towards Pakistan's defeat by a veteran cricketer of yesteryear only shows the arrogance of P

Jaspreet Bumrah's remarkable accomplishment against Pakistan

Team India's 6 run win against arch rivals Pakistan in the ongoing T20 International World Cup game in the USA is really commendable considering the fact that the team had to defend a paltry total of 119 following a batting debacle except for Rishab Pant who made a robust 42 to give some sort of respectability to the Indian total. The Indian batsmen could not play up to their potential and wickets fell at regular intervals with none of the batsmen showing their ability to counter the Pakistani bowling attack.Although past records indicated India's total domination over Pakistan in T20 International World Cup games but the fact that this was India's lowest total against their opponents in this format in World Cup raised doubts about a favourable outcome for the Indian team. It was Jaspreet Bumrah's outstanding bowling effort  with figures of 3 for 14 in his alloted overs that ensured India's thrilling win over Pakistan. Bumrah was ably supported by Hardik Pandya who
