ARCHBALD, Pa., March 2: Lockheed Martin has revealed that
its Dual Mode Plus laser guided bomb (LGB) will be named Paragon. The Paragon direct
attack munition is a reasonably priced, efficient substitute for existing
dual-mode munitions.
"The new brand Paragon exemplifies a model of
excellence, and reflects the system's performance and capability," stated Joe
Serra, Precision Guided Systems director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire
Control, adding, "The Paragon direct attack munition has demonstrated
performance well within operational requirements and can be released farther
from the target than other dual-mode or GPS-guided weapons."
Paragon controls the constancy as well as affordability of
Lockheed Martin's battle-confirmed LGB, assimilating an inertial navigation
system (INS)/GPS all-weather moving-target competence to provide augmented
standoff, mission suppleness and dependable feat.
"Our flexible streamlined manufacturing enables us to
offer Paragon as an affordable solution to help stretch defense budgets,"
Serra remarked, adding, "Greater capability at a more affordable price
benefits our customer by increasing competition in performance-based
acquisitions."
Paragon has been effectively combined with the F/A-18. Extra
F/A-18 flight analysis persists and F-16 test flights are scheduled for the
second quarter of 2017.
Useful against static, relocatable and shifting targets, the
Paragon direct attack munition sustains the physical extents, mass properties
and external mold line of Lockheed Martin's assault verified LGB, and assimilates flawlessly
with aircraft using LGBs or connected direct-attack weaponries utilizing normal
MIL-STD-1760/1553 or Universal Armament Interfaces.
Lockheed Martin is a capable supplier of all three Pave way™
II MK-80 sequence LGB variations (GBU-10/MK-84 [2,000 lb.], GBU-12/MK-82 [500
lb.] and GBU-16/MK-83 [1,000 lb.]) and is the only contributor of the Enhanced
Laser Guided Training Round as well as DMLGB. The company has provided above
150,000 training rounds, over 75,000 Pave way II LGB kits as well as 7,000
dual-mode systems to the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force along with 23 worldwide
clients.
